About the event
1. National Palace Museum (NPM)
The National Palace Museum (NPM) was originally founded in Beijing in 1925 to preserve China’s rich national culture. Due to subsequent conflicts, including the Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War, the museum’s most valuable imperial treasures—spanning the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties—were meticulously relocated and eventually transported to Taiwan in 1948. The new NPM in Taipei officially opened in 1965. Today, the museum is globally recognized for its extensive collection of over 600,000 cultural relics, including famed antiquities, paintings, calligraphies, and rare books, which are continuously expanded through acquisition. Architecturally, the main building is designed in the style of a traditional Chinese palace, featuring four stories, ornate corbels, and distinctive green-tiled roofs. The surrounding grounds enhance the setting with the tranquil Zhishan and Zhide Gardens and the preserved residence of master painter Chang Dai-chien.
